TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (2-2) women's soccer team defeated Mercy College (0-4) by a margin of 11-0 for their first shut out of the season while breaking two school records.
Breaking the school record of goals scored in a single game and score differential set back on Sept. 18, 1999, at Thomas College with a score of 10-0. The new record stands as 11 goals tallied and a score differential of 11-0.
The Spartans got out to a quick start when Perry scored on a breakaway at the two-minute mark. In addition to Perry's game winning goal nine other Spartans contributed points to the impressive offensive display.
Caroline Simon and Jenny Karl added three goals each while Gabby Russo contributed two goals and one assist. Brittan Spence tallied one goal and one assist while Natalie Gibson, Lauren Moore, Dana Palmiotto, and Charlotte White each added one assist for the Spartans.
Goalkeeper, Emelie Karstrom earned her first shut out save of the season recording two saves for the Spartans. The team returns to action at home Friday at 7 p.m., as it hosts Valdosta State University. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
