COLUMBUS, Ga. - In an early-season matchup between a pair of national top-25 opponents, No. 22 Columbus State University (2-0) played to a 1-0 win on its home field over No. 8 University of Tampa (1-1) in women's soccer action.
The Cougars netted the game-winner at 31:25 on a Kansas Bayly free kick. UT finished with 12 shots, including four on goal as it held CSU to nine and one respectively.
Kori Butterfield started and played all 90 minutes in goal for UT. A total of four Spartans had two shots apiece, including Cina Salemi, Courtney Peffley, Cici Gonzalez and Lauren Moore.
Tampa returns home for its 2012 home opener, which is slated for 7 p.m., on Tuesday versus Florida Memorial University at Pepin Stadium.
