Lauren Moore Named First-team All-American as Pair of Teammates Also Honored
INDIANAPOLIS - University of Tampa women's soccer player Lauren Moore was honored as a first-team member of the 2012 Daktronics NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America Team.
Fellow Spartans Courtney Peffley and Cici Gonzalez were also recognized as Peffley was a third-team selection and Gonzalez honorable mention.
Moore, the SSC Player of the Year, was among national leaders with 18 goals. She also tallied five assists for a total of 41 points. Among her goals were four game-winners. The sophomore midfielder was also named a first-team all-region choice by Daktronics. She becomes the sixth player in Spartan history to earn first-team All-American honors, and the first since 2007.
Peffley, a senior captain, set the program's all-time record for games played and started. She finished with a team-leading 12 assists. Peffley also added nine goals, including three game-winners.
Gonzalez, the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year, provided an immediate impact as she notched 12 goals to go with nine assists. Her five game-winning goals were also a team high.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the three Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first-team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot.
This marks the seventh year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America and all-region teams. A total of 59 student-athletes representing 30 different institutions filled out the three teams and the honorable mention squad.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA).
