Tampa Places Three on All-SSC Women’s Soccer Team
MELBOURNE, Fla. - A total of 24 student-athletes have been named to the 2014 All-Sunshine State Conference Women's Soccer Team. Tampa had three players named, including first-teamer Cici Gonzalez along with second-teamers Madison Cox and Caroline Frykgard.
Barry University, Sunshine State Conference Regular Season Champion, boasts 10 ALL-SSC awards including the Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and Freshman of the Year. Voting for the team was conducted among the league's women's soccer coaches.
Lavinia Nkomo was selected Player of the Year after leading the Buccaneers to an 11-1-2 overall record in 2014. Barry's Denise Brolly repeats as SSC Coach of the Year. She takes the program into the SSC tournament as regular season champions for the second time in her two years at the helm.
Offensive Player of the Year belongs to Brenna McKee of Rollins College. Barry's Katie Turner shares Defensive Player of the Year honors with Azure Dorsey of Rollins. Freshman of the Year goes to Christy Grimshaw of Barry.
Arielle Kabangu (Saint Leo), Mora Johnson (Rollins), Lavinia Nkomo (Barry), Cici Gonzalez (Tampa), Paxton Sickler (Rollins), Ashley Harlan (Barry), and Rebecca Rogers (Barry) repeat as First Team ALL-SSC selections.
