Spartans Battle Back against Lenoir-Rhyne
The No. 24 University of Tampa allowed an early goal but fought back to an even score.
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 24 University of Tampa women's soccer team finished in a hard-fought 1-1 tie against Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans allowed an early first goal but fought back in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | The Bears got off to a fast start when Abbie Brown netted a goal in the fourth minute of the match. Tampa had multiple opportunities in the half as Alexa Sheridan sent a rocket to the upper right corner but was stone-walled by Lenoir-Rhyne's goalkeeper Loren Sterling. Emily Cady laced a shot on goal however it found the cross bar. Tampa earned three corner kicks in the first half.
2nd Half | Lacy Nasello was charged with a yellow card in the 52nd minute. Natastia Asgedom lined up for a free kick in the 62nd minute, and ripped a laser shot that was punched by the goalie then ticked off the cross bar. Elena Barr slotted the equalizer in the 76th minute, as she had a breakaway with the keeper and perfectly placed the ball in the lower right corner. Barr has scored in back-to-back matches for the Spartans.
Extra-Time | Neither team gathered momentum in the extra time as each team put up three shots.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Spartans out-shot Lenoir-Rhyne 20-9.
- Four starters for UT played the entire match (Asgedom, Nasello, Megan Bromwell and Ali Robinson).
- Asgedom, Cady and Lenoir-Rhyne's Brown each logged a game-high, four shots.
- Nasello accumulated five fouls to go along with her yellow card.
UP NEXT: The University of Tampa will travel to Georgia College in Valdosta, Ga. on Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m.
