Spartans Fall Short in Battle of Ranked Teams
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The 36th-ranked University of Tampa tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to 21st-ranked Rollins in the Sunshine State Conference opener. The Spartans are now 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in SSC play. The Tars are now 1-0 with the victory in the season opener.
The UT number-two doubles team of freshman Jamie Lieberman and Kourtney Stark were the lone victory for the Spartans in doubles play. The duo registered a 9-7 win over Sonia Bernal and Allison Arof.
In singles play, Tampa picked up victories in the number five and six matches. SSC Player of the Week Caitlin Scudder picked up a victory from the five spot, defeating Silvia Frandji 6-1, 7-5. Stark was the victor in the number-six match, posting a 6-1, 6-1 win over Arof.
The Spartans will now travel to Tifton, Ga., for a pair of weekend matches against Augusta State and Montevallo. UT faces Augusta State on Saturday at noon followed by the Sunday meeting with Montevallo at 10 a.m.
