Heeder Leads Spartans Past Flagler
TAMPA, Fla. - The 36th-ranked University of Tampa tennis team won a close match over visiting Flagler, topping the Saints by a score of 5-4. The victory moves Tampa to 7-4 on the season as Flagler drops to 2-2.
Flagler took a quick lead after taking two of three doubles matches. The lone Spartan victories in doubles play came from the number-one team of Erin Heeder and Jessica Faber. The pair registered an easy 8-0 victory to keep Tampa within striking distance heading to singles play.
While losing the three and six singles matches, UT got victories from Jessica Faber, Kourtney Stark and Caitlin Scudder at the two, four and five spots.
With the score tied 4-4, the match came down to the number one singles match between Tampa's Erin Heeder and Flagler's Chelsi de Cuba. After winning the first set 7-5, Heeder came through in the clutch and registered a 6-3 win in the second set to give the Spartans the victory.
Tampa is back in action tomorrow as it hosts #34 Presbyterian College in an 11 a.m. meeting at the UT Tennis Complex.
