Spartans Fall in First NCAA Appearance
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The #8 ranked Nova Southeastern University (22-2) women's tennis team defeated The University of Tampa (15-10) by a score of 5-0 on Friday afternoon in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. The Spartans conclude their season after making the program's first appearance in the NCAA tournament while registering the first winning season since 1993.
The 2nd seeded Sharks took all three doubles matches from the 7th seeded Spartans to lead 3-0. NSU's #18 ranked duo of Alexa Korotkevich and Ulia Talalenko defeated Tampa's Kourtney Stark and Jamie Lieberman in the top flight 8-1. Edita Kulichova and Anna Schmidtmann defeated Jessica Faber and Allison Beck to put NSU up 2-0 before Mary Crider and Tsippy Waterman finished doubles play with an 8-2 victory over Caitlin Scudder and Claire Darling.
#50 Ulia Talalenko put NSU up 4-0 by defeating Jessica Faber 6-1, 6-0 in the second flight. The match was completed when NSU's Tsippy Waterman closed out Allison Beck 6-0, 6-0, giving the Sharks the 5-0 victory.
