Spartan Tennis on Fire as Historic Start Continues
ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 26 University of Tampa (5-0) women's tennis team kept its perfect record intact with a 9-0 victory over No. 39 Flagler College on Saturday afternoon in a neutral site contest.
The Spartans took all three doubles matches to get play started as the top team of Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladimirski prevailed by an 8-3 count. Kelsey Matthews and Lindsay Nochowicz won at the two spot while Thashia Garcia and Chloe Pereira made it a perfect doubles showing for UT with a win at number three.
Garcia led the charge in singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the number-one match. She was followed by Wladimirski, Hewett, Nochowicz, Matthews and Jenelle Morgan in head coach Al DuFaux's singles lineup.
Tampa is back in action on Wednesday as it resumes Sunshine State Conference play against Rollins College. The match is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m., in Winter Park, Fla.
