Lions Prevail in SSC Contest
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa tennis team met No. 3 Saint Leo in a Sunshine State Conference matchup and came up short against one of the top teams in the nation.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: No. 3 Saint Leo Lions 5, Tampa Spartans 2
Records: Tampa (10-6, 2-5 SSC), Saint Leo (16-4, 6-2 SSC)

All-time Series: Saint Leo holds a 30-27 lead in the all-time series that dates back to the 1988 season.

- The Lions took two of the three doubles contests to earn the point.
- Saint Leo would then win four of the six singles events.
- The duo of Vanina Iordanova and Lilley Nice won the three-match by a 7-5 score.
- Caroline Lozo came away with a number four singles victory by scores of 6-4, 6-3.
- The Spartans also won at five with senior Maddie Stephens recording a 6-0, 7-6 win.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Maddie Stephens is fourth all-time with 42 career singles victories. Next on the list is Kelsey Matthews with 45 wins.
- Lilley Nice is also in the top-10 with 37 career singles victories.
- Stephens is third in UT history with 43 doubles wins while Nice is seventh at 35.
UP NEXT:
The Spartans hit the road for a pair of matches against nationally-ranked SSC opponents. UT faces No. 47 Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by No. 2 Barry on Sunday at 11 a.m.
