Spartans Defeat Panthers On Senior Night
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans volleyball team honored four seniors in the final home game of the season. The Spartans used an offensive onslaught as they defeated the Panthers in three sets. With the victory, UT now sits at 22-8 on the year and 15-4 in the Sunshine State Conference. Tech now falls to 4-25 on the season and 1-17 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UT would jump out early on FT in the first set as they would go on to score the first six points of the set. The Spartans would continue to dominate in the set as they would go on to win by a final score of 25-13. As a team, the Spartans would hit .516 and held the Panthers to just a .120 hitting percentage.
The second set was closer early on as the Panthers were trailing by two points at 6-4. Tampa would then go to push the lead to eight points as they led 18-10. The Panthers were able to get within one point at 19-18, but the Spartan offense would close things out as they won the set 25-20.
In the final set, UT would go on again to jump out to a lead as they scored the first seven points of the set. Tampa would not allow the Panthers to come close as they ran away with the set, winning by a final score of 25-11. The Tampa offense would hit .571 in the set, as they held the Florida Tech offense to a -.037 percentage.
INSIDE THE STATS
- Senior Brooklyn Wilson finished with a career-high 15 kills as she swung at a .652 hitting percentage. She would also finish the match with no errors committed.
- Lauren Kotey would also finish the game with a career-high as the senior had eight kills.
- Sammy Mueller would finish with a game-high 37 kills.
- Nicole Dominguez would finish the game with 13 digs on the night.
- Katie McKiel would end the game with a .615 hitting percentage.
- As a team, Tampa finished the game with a season-high .485 hitting percentage as nine different Spartans recorded a kill.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- With the victory, the Spartans move to 87-0 all-time against the Panthers.
- UT has now swept the season series over Tech.
UP NEXT
The Spartans will wrap up the regular season next Saturday as they travel to Winter Park to take on Rollins College. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
