SEASON PREVIEW: Spartans Open 2023 Season at Home
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa volleyball team sets its sights on yet another dominant season in 2023.
The Spartans were most recently picked as the favorites to top the Sunshine State Conference which would be the program's third straight conference title.
Tampa closed out the 2022 season after falling at home against Barry University in the NCAA South Region Final. The program returns 15 of its players including Mackenzie Dufresne, who totaled the top hitting percentage in Division II along with AVCA South Region Freshman of the Year, Tess Schrenger. The team also added three newcomers in Ana Rivera, Lily Lucas, and Mak Carter.
Coach Chris Catanach enters his 40th season for the University of Tampa Spartans and has compiled an impressive record of 1169-216 thus far.
Tampa kicks off the 2023 season on September 1st. The Spartans will host Gannon University, Missouri S&T, and the University of Central Missouri in the Tampa Classic at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
Conference play for the reigning league champions will begin September 15th as the Spartans play host to Eckerd. Following their conference home opener, the team will be on the road for three straight matchups, including a match against Barry on September 22. Tampa returns home for a three-game stretch beginning September 26th. The Spartans will play back-to-back matches at home versus Lynn and Barry on October 27 and October 28.
Senior Night will be on November 11 against Florida Tech which will be the team's final home matchup for the 2023 regular season. The Spartans will travel to St. Pete and Daytona Beach for their final two regular-season games.
The NCAA Regional Championships will be from November 30-December 2 at campus sites. The NCAA Championships will be held in Moonship, Pennsylvania on December 7-9.
