UT Earns Highest Directors’ Cup Finish in School History
DALLAS, Tex. - Following a record year of accomplishments by its athletics teams, The University of Tampa finished fifth overall in the 2007-08 U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup. The awards were announced in conjunction with the 43rd annual NACDA Convention in Dallas.
The Spartans finished with 650 total points to round out the top five. It also marked the highest finish in UT athletics history, topping a 17th place finish in 1996-97. UT was 19th in 2006-07 as the Spartans have now placed in the top 20 on four occasions.
Grand Valley State captured the top prize with 1028.75 points, followed by Abilene Christian with 808. Minnesota State-Mankato (788.75) and UC-San Diego (752) finished third and fourth respectively.
The top finisher among Sunshine State Conference schools, Tampa was ahead of Nova Southeastern (36), Florida Southern (39), Barry (52), Lynn (54), Rollins (77), Saint Leo (87), Eckerd (188) and Florida Tech (207) in the field of 230 schools.
