61 Spartans Named to SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll
ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Tampa had a total of 61 of the 351 student-athletes that were named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall 2007 semester, as announced Thursday by Commissioner Michael J. Marcil. Forty-nine students carried a perfect 4.00 GPA for the semester, including nine from UT.
To be eligible for the Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00 for the semester. Participants in the sports of men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball were eligible for the honor roll.
Having won 68 national championships since the league was founded in 1975, the SSC's student-athletes have also proven to be successful in the classrooms. The NCAA recently announced that the Sunshine State Conference led all 24 Division II conferences with an Academic Success Rate of 85 percent.
The UT volleyball team placed 12 members on the list as Academic All-American Margeaux Sinibaldi and Camille Hanks each recorded a 4.0. Kaleigh Cunningham, Katelen Dixon, Ana Kalisnik, Danielle MacDonald, Camila Saade, Gabriela Saade, Meghan Sherman, Neely Thomson, Melissa Vanderhall and Annalea Warren were also named to the Honor Roll.
After winning the program's first NCAA II national championship, the women's soccer team had 18 student-athletes chosen. Sally Eagleton and Nicole Murphy each registered a perfect 4.0. Those on the Honor Roll were Sara Belsole, Marissa Bernard, Martha Bromfield, Katie Callahan, Brittney Evans, Courtney Evans, Lauren Hammond, Stefanie Huertas, Shelby Kuni, Maria Mohammed, Marissa Mohammed, Alison Penland, Kristen Possanza, Brianna Smith, Megan Teague and Amy Triano.
The men's soccer team had 10 qualifying individuals, including Heyden Ayure, Daniel Bergstrand, Zach Fraser, Dan Ingvarsson, Chris O'Brien, Devin Shaw, Kory Sprehe, Kevin St. John, Ryan Thompson and Tim Walsh.
In women's cross country, Amber Eisenberg and Laura Plaske had a perfect 4.0 and were recognized along with teammates Kathryn Cummins, Alysha Duffy, D'Arcy Fellona, Jessica Forrester, Dara Fox, Leela Hadsock, Erin Heeder, Margaret Jackson, Nicole Miranda, Sarah Nelson, Heather Nicolosi, Randi Timonere and Paige Williams.
Chris Catanach and Marsid Tushe each excelled with a 4.0 for the men's cross country team while fellow Spartans David Forry, Kevin Lane, Tony Nicolosi and Gordon Wright were also on the Honor Roll.
