Tampa Places 52 Student-Athletes on SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll
ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Tampa had 52 student-athletes among the 398 that were named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall 2011 semester, announced Thursday by Commissioner Jay Jones.
UT also had 10 student-athletes with a perfect 4.00 GPA as 64 students in the SSC carried a perfect 4.00 GPA for the semester.
Tampa's men's cross country team placed eight on the list, including Steven Dennig, Kevin Harley, Kevin Lane (4.0), Michael Leone, Chris Rego, Kyle Taylor, Charles Toledo and Michael Zwijacz.
The Spartan women's cross country team led all Tampa fall teams with 15 on the list. Rachael Beightel, Rose Bishop, Jess Butler, Chanelle Cox, Janna Edwards, Dana Glodek (4.0), Kaia Hampton, Jessie Luttenschlager, Christa McLeod (4.0), Heather Nicolosi (4.0), Katie O'Brien, Lauren Pratt, Courtney Ragan, Hailey Smith (4.0) and Sarah Waller were each recognized.
Men's soccer had 13 honorees, including Daniel Barboto, Matt Davies, Cole Fraser, Dominic Goncalves, Runar Goudbjartsson, Ryan Griffin (4.0), Matt Karn (4.0), Alex Knaggs, Craig Laird, David Niepel, Matt Noble, Karl Swan and Alex Tagawa.
Women's soccer had nine selections, with Marta Bertsos, Arielle
Gonzalez, Jenny Greenlief, Jenny Karl, Nicole Munnelly, Courtney
Peffley (4.0), Jazmin Perry, Cina Salemi (4.0) and Charlotte
White
UT volleyball placed seven with Meagan Burke, Frances Cardenas
(4.0), Camille Hanks (4.0), Kaylee Koetter, Kahley Patrick, Holly
Reschke and Jessica Yingling.
To be eligible for the Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Participants in the sports of men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball were eligible for the honor roll.
Having won 76 national championships since the league was founded in 1975, the SSC's student-athletes have also proven to be successful in the classroom. The NCAA recently announced that, for the fifth consecutive year, the Sunshine State Conference led all 22 Division II conferences with an Academic Success Rate of 86 percent.
