Spartans Look to Continue Winning Streak Against Sailfish
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's basketball team will host Palm Beach Atlantic University this Wednesday at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
Tampa has moved to 12-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play after upsetting No. 3 Nova Southeastern University this past weekend. The game featured three Spartans scoring in double figures; including a double-double (21 points, 11 rebounds) by this week's Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week Shamika Williams.
The home team has won four straight as they continue to focus on impeding their opponents defensively. Tampa is ranked second in the conference in scoring defense, holding opponents to shooting under 40 percent from the field.
The Spartans are led by Taylor McVey averaging 11.9 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game, while Ellen Nurmi registers 11.3 points per contest. Williams has recorded back- to- back double-doubles averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in the last two games.
Palm Beach Atlantic is 7-14 on the season. The team is coming off of three straight losses, the last against Florida Southern College. Kasie Parker leads the Sailfish with 18.9 points per game, while Jaz Green adds just over 11 points per match.
Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. UT defeated the Sailfish earlier in the season 69-46. Tampa owns a 15-1 all-time record versus PBA.
Tickets are available at the gate for $5. Children 12-and-under will be admitted free. UT faculty, staff and students are admitted free when displaying a valid Spartan ID card.
