Tampa Wins 2013-14 SSC Mayors’ Cup Women’s Division Trophy
WINTER PARK, Fla. - For the second-straight year the University of Tampa claimed the women's division of the Sunshine State Conference Mayors' Cup all-sports trophy for 2013-14. The Spartans also won the trophy in back-to-back years during 1991-92 and 1992-93. It is Tampa's fourth all-sports trophy.
First presented following the 1986-87 academic year, the award was traditionally sponsored by the mayors of the nine communities in which SSC member institutions are located.
"Congratulations to President Ronald Vaughn, athletic director Larry Marfise and the entire Tampa Athletic Department and student-athletes on winning the women's all-sports trophy for a second year in a row," said SSC Commissioner Ed Pasque.
In the women's division, points are awarded based on final regular-season conference standings in basketball, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. For cross country, golf, rowing and swimming points are award based on a team's finish at their respective conference championship event.
Tampa led the league with a total of 53.5 points. The Spartans won SSC Championships in five sports including basketball, cross country, softball, swimming and volleyball. Tampa also finished third in soccer.
