Tampa Set To Host SSC Rival Saint Leo
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men and
women's basketball teams are set to host rival Saint Leo University
Wednesday.
The women's team enters the contest at a record of 8-5 on the
season, while being 2-2 in conference play. The Lions enter the
game with a record of 5-8, and 0-4 in the SSC. Last time out SLU
dropped a game to Rollins, while UT dropped a 62-57 heartbreaker to
No. 23 Florida Tech.
Junior Juliana Cavallaro leads the way for the Spartans as she
is averaging 14.7 points per game, along with 5.9 rebounds. Junior
Ellen Nurmi and Senior Aisha Rodney are also averaging double
figures with 10.9 points per game apiece. Junior Taylor McVey leads
the team in rebounding, as she is averaging 7.0 rebounds. Tampa is
73-15 all-time against Saint Leo, with UT winning the last match-up
80-74 in the SSC tournament semifinal.
The men's team enters the contest at 8-5, and is currently on
a two game winning streak. The Spartans are 2-2 in conference play.
The Lions enter the game with a 10-5 record, and are 2-2 in the
SSC. Last time out Saint Leo defeated Rollins in OT, while Tampa
coasted to a 19 point victory over Florida Tech. Sophomore Austin
Rettig led the way for UT over FIT, as he picked up a career high
31 points, along with 10 rebounds.
Senior Eugene McCrory leads the way, as he is averaging a
double-double with 18.2 points and 10 rebounds per game. Senior
Jordan Davis, is averaging 15.3 points, 6.9 assists, and 7.0
rebounds per game. Rettig is also in double figures as he is
recording 14.7 points per game. The Spartans lead the all-time
series 55-16, with Tampa winning the last matchup 60-59 in the SSC
tournament semifinal.
The Spartans are 3-5 against the Lions, since head coach Lance
Randall joined the coaching staff at Saint Leo.
