Spartans Look to Keep Streaks Alive
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men and
women's basketball teams look to extend their winning streak, and
are set to host SSC rival Florida Southern on Wednesday.
The women's team enters the contest at a record of 10-5 on the
season, while being 3-2 in conference play. The Spartans enter the
game on a two game winning streak The Mocs enter the game with a
record of 8-6, a 2-3 record in SSC play. Last time out FSC dropped
a game to No.16 Florida Tech, while UT defeated Palm Beach Atlantic
64-39 with a tenacious defensive effort.
Junior Juliana Cavallaro leads the way for the Spartans as she
is averaging 15.2 points per game, along with 5.7 rebounds. Senior
Aisha Rodney and Junior Ellen Nurmi are also averaging double
figures with 11.1 an 10 points per game respectively. Junior Taylor
McVey leads the team in rebounding, as she is averaging 6.5
rebounds. Tampa is 34-54 all-time against Florida Southern, with UT
winning the last matchup 69-45 at the Bob Martinez Athletics
Center.
The men's team enters the contest at 10-5, and is currently on
a four game winning streak. UT is 3-2 in conference play. Florida
Southern currently ranked sixth in the nation enters the game with
a 15-1 record, and is 4-1 in the SSC. Last time out Florida
Southern picked up a win against Florida Tech at home, while Tampa
knocked off Palm Beach Atlantic. Senior Jordan Davis led the way
for Spartans over the Sailfish, cashing in 26 points, along with
seven rebounds, and three assists.
Senior Eugene McCrory leads the way, as he is averaging a
double-double with 17.1 points and 10 rebounds per game. Coming off
of his SSC player of the week award Senior Jordan Davis, is
averaging 16.3 points, 6.7 assists, and 7.1 rebounds per game.
Sophomore Austin Rettig is also in double figures as he is
recording 14.1 points per game, and 6.2 rebounds per game. The Mocs
lead the all-time series 81-54, with Florida Southern winning the
last matchup 84-74.
