Tampa Finishes Battle of the Bay With Split

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on day two of the Battle on the Bay, which was hosted by Eckerd College.

DUAL 1:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• UT's number three duo of Katie McKiel and Nicole Dominguez picked up a victory in three sets at 22-20, 18-21, 15-11.
• The Spartans won at number five as Alexandra Misca and Claire Blumenthal took the straight set victory with scores of 21-13, 21-16.
• Eckerd took the victory at the number one, two and four contests.
• Nylah Demps and Marisa Beisner won an exhibition match over the Tritons by scores of 22-20, 21-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• This marks the second 5-0 victory over the Eagles for Tampa this week.
• Sorrel Houghton and Melissa Elias won at number one by scores of 21-16, 21-14.
• The number two duo of Leigh Buttner and Gabbi Pacatte had a 21-8, 22-20 victory.
• McKiel and Dominguez notched their second win of the day with a 22-20, 21-11 triumph.
• At number four, Taylor George and Sarah Moore also won their match in straight sets, 21-16, 22-20. 
• UT secured the sweep as the five team of Blumenthal and Misca overcame a first set loss to defeat the Eagles duo 16-21, 21-15, 15-10. 

 BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

• In its first season of play, the Spartans dropped the initial meeting with Eckerd College.
• Head coach Jeff Lamm's squad concludes the week with a 4-1 record.

UP NEXT:
Tampa heads to DeLand, Fla., on Friday for a pair of dual matches, meeting Stetson at 8 a.m., followed by Mercer at noon.
