Chris Rosenbaum Signs Contract With Los Angeles Angels
TAMPA, Fla. - Chris Rosenbaum became the seventh University of Tampa baseball player to be represented by Major League Baseball as the catcher signed a contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. With six draftees and Rosenbaum's signing, the Spartans have set a new school record with seven individuals in the professional ranks this season, topping the previous high of six from last year.
Rosenbaum expects to report to the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League (Rookie) tomorrow. After recently completing his senior campaign, Rosenbaum was a second-team all-Sunshine State Conference selection and a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American. He also won the SSC Sportsmanship Award and was the President of UT's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
"This is a goal that I have always been shooting for," says Rosenbaum. "I came to Tampa for this opportunity and was able to achieve a dream that I have been chasing for a long time."
After driving in the game-winning run in a 10 inning thriller for the 2006 national championship, Rosenbaum started 55 of 56 games as a senior while hitting .341. He also recorded two home runs with 44 RBI. His .988 fielding percentage was also tops on the team while he was second with 383 putouts.
"Chris is extremely deserving of this," says Tampa Head Coach Joe Urso. "He deserves this more than anyone I have coached in my seven years at Tampa."
