Spartans Set to Continue Quest for Record Third Straight Title
SAUGET, Ill. - After winning their third straight NCAA South Regional for the second time in school history, The University of Tampa baseball team will begin play at the 2008 NCAA Baseball Championships on Sunday at 7:30 p.m., eastern time.
With a record of 42-9-1, UT will meet North Central Region
champions Ashland University after the Eagles shut out Wayne State
3-0 on Monday to advance to its fourth College World Series.
A Tampa victory in the opening round would advance the Spartans to a 7:30 p.m., game on Tuesday, May 27. A loss would put UT in the 3:30 p.m., slot.
The two time defending national champions are seeking their sixth NCAA baseball title and a championship would make them the first NCAA II program to win three consecutive titles.
All games will be played at the GCS Ballpark, which is home to the Gateway Grizzlies of the independent league. Capacity is 6,000. The facility is located off Interstate 255, exit 15 (Mousette Lane).
Tournament passes may be reserved in advance by calling 618-337-3000. General admission passes are available for $25 while reserved seating is $40.
Single session tickets may be purchased at the gate for $3 (general admission student), $4 (general admission public), $7 (reserved), $5 (bleacher/picnic area) and $2 (youth group with minimum of 20).
UT will offer Live Stats and an audio Webcast for all Spartan games in the championship series. UT coverage may be accessed through www.tampaspartans.com.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m., central time.
