Dylan Brown and John Wiedenbauer Make It Nine Selections For Tampa In MLB Draft
TAMPA, Fla. - Dylan Brown and John Wiedenbauer became the eighth and ninth University of Tampa players selected in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft. Brown went to the New York Mets in the 37th round with pick number 1,112 as Wiedenbauer became a Los Angeles Angel in round 50 at number 1,524.
UT, who has now had 27 players selected in the past five drafts, broke a program record with its nine players who were selected. The previous record of six came following the national championship season of 2007.
Brown, a junior from Tampa, played for the Spartans in 2010 after transferring from Oklahoma State University. The outfielder became a regular in the Spartan lineup, starting in 35 games while appearing in 44. He was a second-team all-Sunshine State Conference selection and member of the NCAA II South Regional all-tournament team.
While hitting .333, Brown ranked second on the team with 11 home runs and also drove in 32 RBI. The team leader with seven stolen bases also hit seven doubles and two triples along with four outfield assists.
Wiedenbauer, a senior from Ormond Beach, Fla., was a four-year member of the Spartans and played on the 2007 national championship team.
A second-team all-SSC selection, Wiedenbauer was 8-1 as a senior with a 4.72 ERA. In 61.0 innings, he notched 54 strikeouts for the Spartans.
