Patrick Donahue Agrees To Free Agent Deal With Arizona Diamondbacks
PHOENIX, Ariz. - University of Tampa senior infielder Patrick Donahue has signed a free agent deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and has reported to the team on Friday.
Donahue, a native of Boca Raton, Fla., spent two seasons with the Spartans after transferring from Broward Community College. The two-time first-team all-Sunshine State Conference player started both years as a Spartan, leading the squad to an SSC and NCAA South Regional title as a junior.
As a junior in 2010, Donahue was an All-American and first-team all-South Region selection and led Tampa to a 46-11 record and a spot in the NCAA Championships in Cary, N.C. His .406 batting average ranked second among all Spartans while starting 54 of 56 games.
As a senior, Donahue hit .374 while starting all 49 games. In addition to slugging three home runs, he also drove in 36 runs with 12 doubles as the team's starting shortstop.
Donahue becomes the sixth Spartan to receive MLB attention, with five teammates being selected in the 2011 MLB Draft. He marks the first player from this season's team to reach an agreement with an MLB organization and will report to minor-league camp.
