#1 Spartans Set Out Fire in Tuesday Night Matchup
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 1 University of Tampa baseball team improved its record on Tuesday night after a win against the Southeastern University Fire. UT is now 9-0 on the season as SU falls to 8-6.
The Fire scored early after a one-run inning in the first. The Spartans remained scoreless after their first at-bats, but managed to rack up three in the second inning, all of which were unearned.
Two Spartans, sophomore Connor Obrochta and Junior Jake Schrader, combined to go four-for-six on the night, each with two hits. Obrochta also collected a RBI in the game.
The final score of the Spartan victory showed Tampa with six runs and Southeastern with only two.
Junior lefty Erik Luksis started for Tampa, throwing a complete three innings and striking out two Fire batters. Senior Justin Leith and junior Mike Adams each threw for two innings, followed by one apiece from sophomore Preston Packrall and senior Evan Stobbs.
Each team recorded six hits while leaving eight on base. Fire starter, Dimitri Nunez, was able to strike out one Spartan hitter in his four complete innings pitched.
Tampa will look for their tenth win versus the University of West Florida on Friday at 3:30pm in Valdosta, GA.
