Pitching Dominates in Win For No. 3 Tampa
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 3 University of Tampa baseball team won a close game, defeating Pace University by a score of 1-0. The Spartans improve to 9-2 on their 2013 season while the Setters drop to 0-2 on the year.
Pitching dominated the game with both squads only giving up four hits each. This came one day after Tampa won a one-sided slugfest by a score of 25-3.
Although he gave up the games only run, Pace pitcher Robert Rizzitelli went six strong innings only surrendering two hits and striking out eight.
The standout for Tampa today was the relief work of Preston Packrall going five innings, striking out seven and allowing only two hits. Lefty Mike Adams came in for 1.1 innings, retiring three and Caleb Kellogg came in to close registering his first save of the season.
The difference in the game came in the first inning, when Spartans first basemen Quinn Pippin came up big at the plate driving in centerfielder Drew Doty for the game's only run.
