Spartans Fight Back to Earn Series Win at Barry
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The No. 2 University of Tampa baseball team took on Barry University in a doubleheader to wrap up a three game series in Sunshine State Conference play.
In the first game, Barry (21-13, 7-8 SSC), defeated Tampa (26-5, 9-3 SSC) 5-0. The Tampa bats were unable to produce any runs and left several men on base.
In the second bout, Tampa turned things around coming from behind to overtake the Bucs 6-5 to take the series. The Spartans found themselves down 5-2 early on after two innings of play. Tampa battled back with a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth inning to take the lead, which they would not surrender thanks to great work from the bullpen.
Matt Abramson came in and pitched 3.2 innings with three batters put down on strikes, improving to 5-0 this season. Caleb Kellogg was brought in for the last two innings, registering his sixth save of the year.
Connor Obrochta and Zach Alvord both led the squad with three hits in 4 at bats. Adam Pendleton did some damage of his own going 2-for-3 with two RBI on the day.
Tampa is back to work April 6 taking on another SSC opponent when they travel to Lakeland to meet longtime SSC rival Florida Southern for another three game series.
