Spartans Ignite in Rout of Southeastern
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 5 University of Tampa baseball team coasted to an 8-1 victory over Southeastern University Tuesday. The Spartans improve to 34-9 on the season while the visiting Fire snuffed to a 22-18 record.
Senior designated hitter B.J. Zimmerman led all players with three hits on the night. The Spartan slugger plated four runs at a .750 clip while outfielder Michael Danner crossed the plate twice for Tampa. Danner and shortstop Jacob Tillotson notched two hits apiece as the home squad out-hit the Fire 10 to four.
Spartan starting pitcher Brad Hencke (3-0) earned the win, hurling three complete frames and allowing the lone Southeastern run. The Fire starter Sergio Pita (8-4) was tabbed with the loss after four innings of work.
Tampa heads to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to face conference foe Nova Southeastern in their final road series of the regular season. The first of three will take place Friday with a 6 p.m. start time. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
