Casey Scoggins Named SSC Player of the Week

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference has announced its weekly baseball Player of the Week awards. University of Tampa's Casey Scoggins was named the conference Player of the Week. This is the first time Scoggins has earned Player of the Week honors.
Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of February 8 - 14, 2016. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
Scoggins had a big week for the Spartans, as he helped his team sweep the Barry University Buccaneers. Scoggins hit .571 for the weekend as he recorded eight hits in 14 at bats. He also added three triples, one home run, four RBI and came across to score six runs.
In game one of the series, he went 1-for-2 in the game with two walks. He came in clutch in the bottom of the seventh inning, as he led the inning off with a solo homerun that gave the Spartans the deciding run in the 3-2 victory.
In the second game of the series, Scoggins exploded offensively as the senior tied a school record with six hits in six at bats. Included in those six hits were two triples and a double. He came around to score four runs and added three RBI in the UT 12-11 extra inning victory.
In the final game of the series, he another triple and a run scored in the 10-8 victory that sealed the series sweep for Tampa.
Scoggins and the rest of the Spartans will be back in action on Thursday, March 3rd as they host Seton Hill University. First pitch is set for 3:00 P.M.
