Black Scores Career High In Tampa Victory
TAMPA, Fla. - Jeremy Black scored a career high 26 points as the University of Tampa men's basketball team held off a pesky Palm Beach Atlantic squad for a 71-63 victory. The Spartans improve to 9-7 with the victory and put an end to a three-game losing streak while the Sailfish fell to 2-17.
In a game that was within 10 points until the 14:01 mark of the second half, Tampa was able to keep the advantage for the entire contest. The Spartans carried a seven point lead into the half and allowed the Sailfish to cut the lead to as low as five points before going on a 6-0 run in a three-minute span beginning at 17:24 of the second half. UT then pulled away, leading by as many as 19 points in the half.
Black registered 12 of his 26 points from the free-throw line, which marked a new career high for free throws made. He finished 12-17 from the line and also made seven field goals. Black also recorded a double-double with a team high10 rebounds.
Chris Evans also turned in a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while hitting 8-12 field goal attempts. Evans also connected on 5-6 from beyond the arc.
Other UT players with double figure scoring efforts were Jeffrey Moore and A.J. Davis, who turned in 11 and 10 points respectively. Davis gave the Spartans a spark off the bench with all 10 points in the first half off the bench while hitting 4-4 field goals, two of which were three pointers.
The Spartans are back in action on Wednesday, January 17 as they return to Sunshine State Conference play against Florida Southern at 7:30 pm.
