Double Overtime Buzzer Beater By Lynn Spoils Tampa Upset Bid
TAMPA, Fla. - In its second double overtime contest this season, The University of Tampa men's basketball team suffered a 62-61 loss on a buzzer-beater by Lynn's Tyler Emmons. The Spartans are now 9-9 on the season and fall to 1-5 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Fighting Knights improve to 13-4 and 5-1 in conference play.
Lynn led the majority of regulation as the Spartans surrendered the lead two minutes into the game and forced overtime on a three-pointer by Matt Pezzullo with five seconds remaining in the game. Pezzullo was then injured on the defensive stand and sat out both overtime periods.
The first overtime was a back-and-forth affair which ended in a tie before Tampa regained a lead in the second overtime. Down one with less than 10-seconds remaining, Lynn's Emmons then connected on the game-winning jumper as the buzzer sounded after the game was tied or led by Tampa for the final four minutes.
Chris King came off the bench to lead Tampa with 20 points. Chris Evans added 16 points and 10 rebounds while Jeremy Black chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.
Tampa is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Eckerd. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm in St. Petersburg.
