Black Turns in Dominating Performance in Spartan Victory
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team used a top performance by Jeremy Black to defeat Southeastern 64-50. The Spartans improve to 7-3 on the season with the victory.
Black scored a team-high 17 points and notched new career highs with 18 rebounds and eight blocked shots, which tied a UT school record. In his sixth double-double of the season, Black grabbed nine offensive rebounds in 35 minutes of action. Tampa also registered 17 total blocks as a team, setting a new school record.
The game remained close throughout the first half as Tampa carried a 30-29 lead to the half. There were a total of four lead changes in the first half with UT leading by as many as six and Southeastern by five. The Spartans maintained the lead for the entire second half and extended the advantage to 10-points with just over five minutes remaining in the contest.
Chris King also recorded a double-double for UT with 12 points and 10 rebounds. King also turned in a team-high five assists. Jeff James received his first start as a Spartan and responded with 11 points for his second consecutive double figure scoring effort. Jeffrey Moore also chipped in seven points off the bench.
