Men’s Basketball Signs New Jersey Standout to Letter of Intent
TAMPA, Fla. - Head Coach Richard Schmidt has announced the signing of Rashad Callaway to a national letter of intent. He joins Matt Tomaszewski as members of the incoming freshman class who will enroll in the Fall of 2007.
A native of Bayonne, N.J., Callaway was a first-team all-county selection while playing for Bayonne High School. The 5-9 point guard averaged 21 points per game in addition to eight assists and three steals per contest. While playing for head coach Jack Hladik, he was also named third-team All-Group 4 and was the recipient of the Bernie Ockene Memorial Basketball Award. He was also named the MVP of the Emerson High School Tournament.
Callaway also played club basketball for the Bayonne Mean Machine, where he led the squad to a Hamilton Park and Zoo Crew summer league championship. He also was selected to play in the IS8 New York City tournament and the Hudson vs. Essex County summer all-star game.
"We are extremely excited about the potential Rashad brings to this program," says Schmidt. "I feel that we have signed a diamond in the rough type kid and he will be an excellent fit for our team. This is a kid who is extremely quick and brings the point guard qualities that are needed to compete at this level."
