Tampa, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team improved its record to 2-0 as it won its season opener with a 76-70 victory over Goldey-Beacom (Del.). Though the Spartans just trailed once, the game stayed close as the Spartans were able to sink their free throws at the end to hold on for the victory.
Tampa held Goldey-Beacom to a 26.7 percent field goal percentage in the first half as the Spartans combined for six blocks in the half, three by Jeremy Black. Chris Evans also gave Tampa a boost, scoring a team-high 16 points in the first-half while him and Chris King combined for 27 of Tampa's 37 first-half points.
King finished with a team-high 21 points as Evans added 19 for the Spartans. Jeremy Black notched his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Black also led UT with four blocks. Johnathan Ball also chipped in 14 points for Tampa.
