TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa suffered its first Sunshine State Conference loss, falling 70-58 to Saint Leo. The Spartans drop to 8-5 on the season and 1-1 in SSC play while the Lions are now 6-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.
In a game with 17 lead changes, Saint Leo broke away in the final five minutes as it stretched a one point lead to its game high of 12 to end the game.
Chris Evans and Johnathan Ball led the Tampa effort with 15 points apiece to lead the Spartans. Evans was one of two Spartans to notch a double-double as he had 13 rebounds while teammate Jeremy Black registered 10 points and 10 rebounds. Black also led UT with three blocks.
Tampa travels to Miami Shores to face Barry on Saturday, January 6. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
