Tampa Holds on to Defeat Eckerd on the Road
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team pulled off a glorious victory against the Eckerd College Tritons for the first time on their home court since their 2005-06 season. The 62-61 UT win also marks their first Sunshine State Conference victory of the year.
This victory snaps a two game losing streak as the Spartans are now 7-4 and 1-1 in conference play while the Tritons move to 7-6 and 0-3.
The Spartans led throughout the whole first half and went into halftime 13 points up. The Tritons came back after halftime to break down the lead and led by one at the 11 minute mark. The teams were back and forth throughout the second half, trading three-point shots.
Rashad Callaway was 4-8 from long range and led Tampa in scoring with 17 points. Glyn Hunter chipped in 14 points and Fred Woods scored 12.
The Spartans travel to Winter Park on Saturday to play Rollins College to continue Sunshine State Conference play.
