Nova Southeastern Edges Tampa In SSC Action
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Nova Southeastern University handed The University of Tampa a 97-88 setback in Sunshine State Conference men's basketball action. Nova improves to 12-8 (5-5) while the Spartans drop to 9-10 (3-7 SSC).
Nova Southeastern led for the entire contest and carried a 50-40 tilt to the half on a buzzer beating shot by Brian Cahill. Nova led by as many as 15 points in the second half as UT was unable to come within striking distance.
Rashad Callaway led Tampa with 25 points, nine assists and three steals. He finished 8-15 from the field and 9-10 from the free throw line.
Anthony LaBruno and Mounir Benzegala added 22 and 15 points respectively as Ashton Graham contributed 10 off the bench. Benzegala and Callum Townsend each pulled downs four rebounds to lead UT on the boards.
The Sharks outshot UT 56.4 to 47.5 percent as it also won the battle of the glass, 32-27. Each team shot 42.9 percent from 3-point range.
