Lynn Rallies To Defeat Tampa In Overtime
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team dropped a 91-85 overtime decision to Sunshine State Conference opponent Lynn University. The Spartans drop to 9-11 on the year and 3-8 in the SSC as the Fighting Knights improve to 12-10 and 6-5 in league play.
The game was evenly played, with UT edging Lynn 40-36 in the first half before the Fighting Knights let a late lead slip away to allow an extra period. Lynn held a 76-72 advantage with 39 seconds to play before the Spartans evened the slate with four free throws from leading scorer Rashad Callaway. A turnover and two missed free throws by the Fighting Knights opened the door to overtime.
Lynn never trailed in overtime as it started the frame on an 8-2 run to seize the momentum. The Spartans were unable to crack the Fighting Knights, coming as close as four points with 35 seconds on the clock.
Callaway netted a game high 26 points to go with nine assists and three steals. Callum Townsend came off the bench to notch his first career double-double, recording 21 points and 12 rebounds. The Riverview, Fla., native was 7-13 from the field. Anthony LaBruno also added 18 points for the Spartans.
