Spartans End Skid With Win At Saint Leo
SAINT LEO, Fla. - The University of Tampa (10-11, 4-8 SSC) men's basketball team put a halt to a three game losing streak with an 80-65 victory over Saint Leo University (10-15, 4-8 SSC) in Sunshine State Conference action. The Spartans completed the season sweep of the Lions with the triumph.
Saint Leo led early before the Spartans grabbed a 30-29 advantage with 1:32 to play in the first half. UT closed the half on a 5-0 run to carry a 35-29 tilt to the half.
In the second half, a 3-pointer by Ashton Graham with 13:41 on the clock gave UT its first double figure lead at 52-41. The Spartans led by as many as 17 and outpaced the Lions 8-2 in the final 1:46 to hold the momentum.
Five Spartans were in double figures as Callum Townsend led UT with 17 points off the bench. The freshman connected on four long-range shots and also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double.
Anthony LaBruno added 14 points while Mounir Benzegala, Rashad Callaway and Glyn Hunter each tallied 10 points. Callaway also registered team highs of 10 assists and three steals.
The Spartans will try to continue its success as it travels to Winter Park for a meeting with No. 23 Rollins College on Saturday. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m., following the women's matchup between the two schools.
