Tampa Drops SSC Road Game At Barry
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The University of Tampa (10-14, 4-11 SSC) men's basketball team dropped an 80-71 decision to Barry University (16-9, 7-7 SSC) in Sunshine State Conference action.
The Spartans held an early advantage before the Buccaneers took the lead for good at the 8:45 mark of the first half. Barry took a six point advantage to the break and led for the entire second half.
Rashad Callaway led a group of four UT players who scored double figures, netting a game-high 24 points. The junior from Bayonne, N.J., was 7-for-16 from the field and 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
Ted Amendola and Anthony LaBruno added 12 apiece while Glyn Hunter contributed 10. Amendola was in double figures for the first time in his collegiate career as the freshman earned his first start. He finished 5-for-7 from the field.
Callaway paced the Spartans with eight assists as Amendola and Ashton Graham joined him with two steals. Callum Townsend grabbed a team-high five rebounds off the bench.
UT closes out the SSC season on Wednesday as it hosts rival Florida Southern College on senior night. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Bob Martinez Sports Center. Live stats and a webcast will be available through www.tampaspartans.com
