Tampa Concludes Regular Season With Victory
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (11-15) men's basketball team closed out the regular season with an 83-75 victory over visiting Palm Beach Atlantic University (3-23).
After trailing 38-36 at the half, the Spartans allowed PBA to take a 43-36 lead with 17:22 to play. Tampa answered with a 13-2 run to grab a four point lead, which it never surrendered. The Spartan lead ballooned to 13 with 6:03 remaining as UT held on for the win.
Rashad Callaway and Marcus Morrison were each in the 20-plus point category with 29 and 21 respectively. Mounir Benzegala celebrated his final game at the Bob Martinez Sports Center with a 12 point effort.
Morrison also notched a double-double as he pulled down 12 rebounds on the day. He also led the Spartans with two blocked shots. Benzegala also held team honors with five assists as Callaway had two steals.
UT has earned a spot in the 2010 SSC Tournament following a Saint Leo loss to Barry on Saturday. The opening round is scheduled for Wednesday at a campus site to be announced.
