Tampa Moves to 5-0 With Blowout of Fort Valley State
ST. LEO, Fla. - The University of Tampa (5-0) men's basketball team kept its strong start intact with a 92-67 victory over Fort Valley State University (3-2) at the Saint Leo Classic.
Tampa led for the entire contest and after taking a 46-35 lead to the half, led by double figures for the final 17:17 of play. Tampa's largest lead was 26 points.
A total of five Spartans scored in double figures, led by Da'Markco Foster's 28 points. While leading the team in scoring for the fourth straight contest, Foster turned in a season-high in points. Foster made six 3-pointers, and also connected on 9-for-15 from the field.
Anthony Griffis added 21 points while Vincent Cornu registered a double-double with 13 points to go with a team-leading 11 rebounds. Austin Rettig and Eric Moraes also came off the Spartan bench to add 11 and 10 points respectively.
Jon Riles led Tampa in assists and steals, tallying seven and five in the categories while playing 28 minutes.
The Spartans shot 52 percent from the field, and also outrebounded the Wildcats by a 44-32 margin. UT also connected on 13-of-26 field goals from long range, finishing with a 50 percent showing from beyond the arc.
Tampa will conclude play at SLU on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., versus Armstrong University (Ga.). Live stats will be available through TampaSpartans.com.
