Men’s Basketball Defeat Miles for 11th Win
TAMPA, Fla. - Continuing its perfect record, the No. 22 ranked University of Tampa men's basketball team improves to 11-0 on the season with a 62-58 victory over Miles College. The loss puts the Golden Bears at 3-4 on the season.
Spartans guard Eric Moraes led the charge, shooting 6-for-6 from the field and sinking six free throws, totaling 17 points. The junior also tallied eight rebounds and two blocks in the close victory for the Tampa team.
Senior Anthony Griffis recorded the game's lone double-double as the guard connected for 11 points and 10 rebounds while Da'Marcko Foster recorded 14 points for Tampa.
The Golden Bears jumped out to a 7-0 lead to begin the first half but the resilient Spartans quickly recovered to take the first half by a 33-28 score. Moraes shot 3-3 in the premier half with five rebounds while Griffis contributed six rebounds of his own.
The second half saw two lead changes as the Golden Bears fought back from a 37-31 deficit to take the lead 38-37. Tampa tied up the game with just over three minutes of play at 54-54, ultimately taking the contest 62-58 to remain perfect on the season.
Tampa returns to the court Sunday to face Paine University. The contest is slated for a 4 p.m. start time to conclude the Tampa Classic at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
