Spartans Fall Victim to Sharks
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (13-4, 1-4 SSC) men's basketball team dropped a 68-51 decision to Sunshine State Conference opponent Nova Southeastern University (9-5, 2-4) on Saturday at the Martinez Center.
The Sharks came out of halftime firing as they led by as many as 36 points in the second half after taking a 31-23 lead to the break. The Sharks outscored Tampa 29-2 in just under 10 minutes to start the second half to put the game away.
Despite the large deficit, Tampa fought back and ended the game on a 24-5 run over the final 8:43.
Austin Rettig came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points for the Spartans. The freshman connected on three long-range shots while being the only UT player in double figures.
Vincent Cornu led Tampa with seven rebounds as Da'Markco Foster and Bastien Motte each had three assists.
Tampa will travel to Lakeland, Fla., on Wednesday to meet SSC rival Florida Southern College at 7:30 p.m. Live stats and a webcast will be available through TampaSpartans.com.
