Tampa Defeats Rollins To Win Third Straight
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The University of Tampa (16-6, 3-6 SSC) men's basketball team won its third straight game with a 70-66 road victory over Rollins College (15-5, 7-3 SSC) in Sunshine State Conference action.
Tampa would lead by as many as 10 points in the first half, eventually going to the break with a 29-25 advantage.
The battle continued in the second half, with a total of six lead changes. With Rollins holding a 55-53 lead and 3:16 to play, the Spartans would go on an 8-1 run to grab a 61-56 lead with 53 seconds to play in regulation.
Anthony Griffis would connect on 6-of-6 free throws inside 28 seconds to play to secure Tampa's second consecutive win at Rollins.
Griffis scored 20 of his team-leading 25 points in the second half as the senior guard also connected on five 3-pointers and was 8-for-9 from the free throw line. Vincent Cornu added 13 points as he and Griffis also shared the team lead with seven rebounds apiece.
Da'Markco Foster led UT with six assists as the Spartans also outrebounded the Tars by a 42-31 margin. Tampa also finished with 13 offensive rebounds, compared to six for Rollins.
The Spartans return home for a Saturday afternoon game against SSC opponent Lynn University. The game will tip at 4 p.m., at the Martinez Center. Live stats and video will be available through TampaSpartans.tv.
