Spartans Lose Battle at Barry
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The University of Tampa (5-2, 0-1 SSC) men's basketball team fell 71-73 to Barry University (5-0, 1-0 SSC) Saturday evening.
Despite not having their leading scorer (Foster), the Spartans fought their way through the first half to end with a one point lead. Tampa and Barry were even in field goal shooting, connecting at 41 percent apiece.
Eric Moraes led all scorers with 11 points in the first half.
The Spartans continued with the same determined mentality at the beginning of the second half; diving for loose balls, rebounding, effective hustle plays, however, foul trouble seemed to impede Tampa from pulling away. Even with two crucial three-point baskets hit by Tyler Zacur in the final minutes, the down to the wire match did not end in UT's favor.
Moraes finished the game with 19 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Davis registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists, while Ryan Kidd contributed 13 points.
Tampa will host Dominican College Dec. 18th. This marks the first match up between the two teams.
Tickets are available at the gate for $5. Children 12-and-under will be admitted free. UT faculty, staff and students are admitted free when displaying a valid Spartan ID card.
