Spartans Reroute Lynn for Road Win
BOCA RATON, Fla.- The University of Tampa (15-7, 8-5 SSC) men's basketball team defeated Lynn University (7-15, 1-11 SSC) by a score of 66-60 Saturday evening on the road.
The two teams traded miniscule leads throughout the beginning of the period until a basket by Herb Thomas bred life into the Fighting Knights' offense. Tampa did not have an answer for Fred Landers 15 first half points, along with allowing the Fighting Knights to capitalize off of seven Spartan turnovers.
The Spartans were 2-of-2 from three point range and 4-of-5 from the free throw line, which allowed them to stay within striking distance. Vincent Cornu concluded the half with six points and five rebounds.
Tampa looked flustered as Lynn got out to a 10 point lead about halfway through the last period, but, Ryan Kidd hit a three-point basket with 7:32 to tie the game up at 51 and to grant the Spartans an opportunity to win. The game was tied one more time with five minutes remaining until an electric dunk by Eric Moraes brought his team to their feet and ultimately to Lynn's defeat.
The Spartans shot 50 percent from downtown amidst a decent performance from the field. Da'Markco Foster led the team with 13 points, followed by 12 point efforts by Cornu and Moraes. Matt Johnson added 10 points.
