Spartans March Past Saints
TAMPA, Fla. - Senior Eugene McCrory registered his fourth double-double on the year as the University of Tampa Spartans (5-4) defeated the Limestone College Saints (2-9) 62-42 on Saturday in day one of the Tampa Classic. The victory puts Tampa above .500 for the first time this season.
In the first half of play, the two teams played a close matchup as the Spartans took a 25-24 lead heading into the intermission. Both teams played tough defense as Tampa was held to 11-38 (28.9%) from the field, and Limestone was held to 9-28 (32.1%)
In the second half, UT found its stride as it outscored LC 37-18. With the score at 33-32 in favor of Spartans, Tampa used a 21-6 run over the next 7:36, to take a 54-38 lead. In the half Tampa shot 16-31 (51.6%) from the field to claim the 20 point victory.
McCrory ended the game with 16 points and 13 rebounds, this is the second consecutive double-double for Eugene. Three other Spartans ended the game in double figures, with senior Jordan Davis putting up 11. Sophomore Austin Rettig and freshmen Marcel Robinson added 10 points a piece in the win. Retting added 10 rebounds to register a double-double.
Tampa will be back in action again tomorrow, as they host Cedarville in day two of the Tampa Classic. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 PM
