Rettig?s Career Day Carries Tampa Over Florida Tech
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa (8-5, 2-2) men's basketball team traveled to Melbourne to take on the Florida Tech Panthers (104, 0-3). The Spartans used a domination offensive performance en route to an 85-66 victory.
Tampa used a 50% (16-32) effort from the field to take a 48-36 lead at the half. The Spartans were able to find their stroke from behind the arc, as they were able to make six three-point baskets.
Sophomore Austin Rettig led the way for UT, as he had 13 points and four rebounds.
In the second half, Tampa continued to build up their lead, as they shot 48.4% (15-31) from the field, while holding Tech to 25% (7-28). The Panthers were able to gain a bit of momentum, as they closed the gap to six points five minutes into the half. Tampa then went on a run to push the lead back to 12 with 10 minutes left to play.
The Spartans outscored the Panthers 34-20 in the paint, while also outscoring in fast break points, 8-4.
Rettig Scored a career high 31 points, as he went 11-17 from the field, and 2-5 from three. Retting also added 10 rebounds on the night.
Seniors Eugene McCrory and Jordan Davis added double figure scoring 15 and 13 respectively.
The Spartans will be back in action on Wednesday, as they host Saint Leo in a conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
