Spartans Pave SSC Victory Over Tars
WINTER PARK, Fla. - Sophomore Austin Rettig paced the Univeristy of Tampa men's basketball team as he tallied 25 points in their 82-71 victory over the Rollins College Tars on Saturday afternoon in the Warden Arena in Winter Park, Florida.
Tampa improves to 11-6 overall, 4-3 in Sunshine State Conference play, while Rollins drops to 7-11, 0-7 SSC.
Tyler Zacur totaled 15 points with two rebounds throughout the afternoon contest. Both Eugene McCrory and Rettig captured eight and seven rebounds, respectively. Rettig notched five three-pointers of his 25 total points, matching his career-high first earned on Nov. 26 against Armstrong.
The Spartans got off on the right foot as Zacur dropped five three-pointers to open the game, tying his career-high from Nova Southeastern on Dec. 6. Rettig added 10 points to Tampa's 40 in the first half. Spartan offense, with dunks by Othniel Shelton and Rettig, continued to break through the Tars' defense in the second half.
Despite the 15-point effort by Sharif Amulla, the Tars could not overcome the offensive prowess of the Spartans.
The Spartans hit the road on Wednesday, taking on the Barry University Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. in Miami Shores, Florida.
